Over the course of his 35-plus-year career, Bill Cate has demonstrated leadership and success in channel strategy, development, marketing, and partner enablement. He is renowned for his ability to create and execute impactful channel programs that have consistently driven partner success and market growth. For these reasons, Cate was conferred the 2023 Channel Lifetime Achievement Award.

Beginning his career at IBM in the late 1970s, Cate gained early expertise in product launches and customer training, quickly becoming adept at engaging partners to bring new solutions to market. His strategic vision was further demonstrated during his time at Harris Corporation and OpenConnect Systems in the 1980s, where he led teams in driving complex data center solutions through the channel, opening new opportunities and motivating partners.

In the 1990s, Cate transitioned into channel leadership roles at Sun Microsystems, where he played a pivotal role in introducing disruptive data center technologies through partner networks. His innovative programs laid the groundwork for Sun’s channel success, and as Director of Worldwide Channel Marketing in the early 2000s, Cate elevated Sun’s channel marketing to new heights, with his global vision and flawless execution.

At Motorola Solutions and Zebra Technologies, Cate continued his legacy of excellence as Channel Chief, where he was instrumental in fostering award-winning partner programs. His collaboration with sales teams to strengthen partner relationships and engagement has earned him widespread admiration in the industry.
